Martin Hoffmann was born in Berlin in 1971. He studied Psychology in Siegen and Berlin. Subsequently, he was educated as cameraman and cutter at Cine impuls plus. Partly with his own production company, Martin Hoffman has, as director, cameraman and cutter, been realizing numerous video clips, advertising spots, motion pictures, and documentary films, such as Halbes Leben, (2008, grosser diagonale preis award 2008, direction: Marko Doringer), Trip to Asia (2007, direction: Thomas Grube), Mozart Special (2006, direction: Peter Pippich), and R.I.S SAT1 (2006, direction: Christoph Heil). With Rhythm is it!, Martin Hoffmann won the 2005 German Film Award. He worked as co-editor for the 2017 film Human Flow by Ai Weiwei.
