Wagner visited the Swiss sights that are now know worldwide on his own as well as with his wife Minna Wagner, his friends Theodor Uhlig and Franz Liszt, his second wife Cosima Wagner, Bavarian king Ludwig and many other guests. There are records for travels with Minna onto the Rigi mountain, a trip following the trails of Wilhelm Tell with Theodor Uhlig (1851), a great tour around the Alpes via Lucerne, the Bernese Oberland to the Borromean Islands (1852), a trip to Brunnen with the Wesendonck family (1854), and many excursions with Cosima around Lucerne and its surroundings (1866-1872).
From Zurich you can reach Lucerne in an hour either by train or car. A boat trip across Lake Lucerne is a good way to enjoy the Wagner panoramas and to spend some time in Wagner places. In Tribschen you can find Switzerland’s Wagner Museum.
